Nomadic Matt’s Travel Tuesday

Reader,

Greetings from NYC! It's been a busy week but I finally feel like I am settled into the city. I have a good routine going and my schedule is sorted out. I really feel in a groove.

The big news is that I finally got health insurance that covers me in the city so I can stop paying out-of-pocket for my TB treatment. For those unfamiliar with the US healthcare system, my previous insurance only covered me in Texas because it was bought on the Obamacare marketplace. That meant any treatment out of state had to be paid for by me. The total cost of all that? $14,000!

So, I'm pretty excited to have medical coverage again as there are some further tests and treatments that we had to put off until this month. My life theme for the remainder of the year is just to get my health sorted as much as possible. Get in shape, get active, improve my bloodwork, and fight off this TB!

Finally, as I mentioned last week, we are no longer doing tours. We have some internal changes going on — employees leaving, going on maternity leave, shifting projects — so we're putting them on hold for the time being.

But we do have TWO final tours going this year in October! We have ONE spot left on our Oaxaca tour and our Mexico City tour has seven spots left. So come join us on our last tours! They are a lot of fun and we take you to a ton of local, off-the-beaten-path places.

Finally, as I am planning my fall travels (more on that next week as I need some help deciding where to go), I updated my post on how to plan a trip on a budget. Check it out!

Reader, A few weeks ago, I came across a quote by Seneca that said "It's not that we have a short time to live but that we waste a lot of it." I can't stop thinking about it. As the month ends, I had hoped I would be further along in so many things — I'd be more in shape, eaten healthier, had sightseen more of the city, read more, or had done this or that. I'd thought I'd accomplish more. And, while I'd never call myself lazy, I'm pretty good at wasting time. Now, don't get me wrong. I don't...

Reader, Greetings from NYC! How are we already over 1/3rd of the way through September? Wasn't it just August last week? Lately, I feel like time is just flying by. Or is it just me? In two weeks I'm heading to Europe for a bit. This will be my first pure personal trip all year. A lot of my travels in the last couple of years have been work-related: tours, conferences, destination partnerships. Japan was supposed to be a fun personal trip but then I got sick so I spent most of my trip in a...
