Reader, A few weeks ago, I came across a quote by Seneca that said "It's not that we have a short time to live but that we waste a lot of it." I can't stop thinking about it. As the month ends, I had hoped I would be further along in so many things — I'd be more in shape, eaten healthier, had sightseen more of the city, read more, or had done this or that. I'd thought I'd accomplish more. And, while I'd never call myself lazy, I'm pretty good at wasting time. Now, don't get me wrong. I don't think we need to always be hustling 24/7. Boredom is where creativity is born. But I do think a lot of time gets wasted on things that don't matter: mindless distractions, Netflix binges, toxic people and arguments, and social media to name a few. Modern life sucks our energy in a lot of terrible ways. Someone recently asked for advice on time management. "I'm too busy to take a trip," they said. There are a lot of valid things that take up time. Maybe you can't get time off work, maybe the kids are in school, maybe you have to take care of a relative. But often we are simply busy wasting time and not prioritizing what we want. Why are we "too busy" to sightsee around where we live? Why are we "too busy" to take a weekend away? Why are we "too busy" to plan our dream trip? Those are questions you have to answer but I think that quote is a good reminder to focus on the things that are important and stop wasting it on the things that don't. After all, we only have 4,000 weeks on this planet. Why waste such limited time? |

Reader, Greetings from NYC! How are we already over 1/3rd of the way through September? Wasn't it just August last week? Lately, I feel like time is just flying by. Or is it just me? In two weeks I'm heading to Europe for a bit. This will be my first pure personal trip all year.
